Exchange Server 2013 - Messaging.old creation

$

Hey All,

Firstly thank you in advance for any input that I get on this one. Always appreciate others taking the time out to help their fellow techies.

We have an Exchange 2013 Server that is creating Messaging.old folders in "C:\ProgramFiles\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue"

I can't seem to find any events in event logs that correlate to the creation of these folders.

The last one I've got is titled 20180626150413 so naturally I've gone into event logs on the 26\06\18 @ 15:04:13 and nothing.

Can somebody let me know what causes the creation of these? My understanding has always been that when the Transport Service falters for any reason it dumps the que into these folders. Recovers what it needs / can and then leaves the copy in the Messaging.old folder should a exchadmin need to recover anything.

However I'm not seeing anything in event logs around these times about the Trasnport Service or otherwise. Could anything else cause it?

Hi,

Two Exchange servers with the same e-mail domain in two different AD's

Greetings,

We have a Exchange 2007 server that we're migration from, and anExchange 2013 server that we're going to.

Both are in separate AD domains.

So, if you sent an e-mail to someone in company.com it goes through Google spam first, then on to the Exchange 2007 server.

We need the Exchange 2007 server to auto forward any user that doesn't exist on that server,to the Exchange 2013 server, so that once we migrate (move) someone to the newer system, they will still get their mail.

In contrast, we need the same thing to happen with the Exchange 2013 server so that users on that server can still send e-mail back to users on the Exchange 2007 server.

Doing this per mailbox is waayyy too cumbersome for making rules per recipient.

We want the Exchange system to simply send/relay mail for recipients it doesn't possess onto the other Exchange server.

What we don't want, is a loop of endless relaying, where server a sends to server b cause it doesn't have that person, and server b sends it back to server a for the same reason.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi

We have 16 exchange 2016 servers.

I will going to query one of many other send connector.

But I can't query setting input ip address's nexthopdomain.

I try this query > get-transportserver | get-queue | where {$_.nexthopdomain -like "10.10.x.x"}

If I entered real domain in nexthopdomain then query is right.

I have installed Exchange 2016 on a virtual 2012R2 machine. Exchange is working locally but will not work remotely with sync on cell phones. I have run the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer to test Exchange ActiveSync. I get one error with folder sync listed below. I need help to get this resolved.

Attempting the FolderSync command on the Exchange ActiveSync session.

The test of the FolderSync command failed.

Exchange ActiveSync returned an HTTP 500 response (Internal Server Error).

Strange error...

Hi!

I've just run into an error that really confuses me. Hopefully someone here has an idea what the source of the problem might be.

I created a new distribution group named QA-Mobile. When I try to send mails to the DG from Outlook (2016) I receive '550 5.1.11 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; Recipient not found by Exchange Legacy encapsulated email address lookup' even though the recipient is there and the smtp-address is correct.  When I try sending the same mail via OWA it works fine. (?)

I've also added a second smtp-address QAMobile and that works fine with Outlook.

Anybody got an idea how I can fix this? In over twenty years of being a MCT and Consultant for Exchange I've never run into this kind of problem...

Regards,

Gerrit

Help! Event ID 12014 - Microsoft Exchange 2013 could not find a certificate!?!?!?

$

Hello,

I have this error on all my Exchange 2013 SP1 mailbox servers:

"Microsoft Exchange could not find a certificate that contains the domain name "Chicago CAS FQDN" in the personal store on the local computer (looking at this error on LA MBX01). Therefore, it is unable to support the STARTTLS SMTP verb for the connector "OUTBOUNDTOIRONPORT" with a FQDN parameter of "Chicago CAS FQDN". If the connector's FQDN is not specified, the computer's FQDN is used. Verify the connector configuration and the installed certificates to make sure that there is a certficate with a domain name for that FQDN. If this certificate exists, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate - Services SMTP to make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service has access to the certificate key."

I have 6 Exchange 2013 SP1 servers - all with CU6 (build 995.29).
I have intersite DAG across two sites - LA & Chicago.

SITES
LA:
LA CAS - Windows 2012
LA MBX01 - Windows 2012
LA MBX02 - Windows 2012

Chicago:
CH CAS - Windows 2012 R2
CH MBX01 - Windows 2012
CH MBX02 - Windows 2012

1 DAG:
Members - LA MBX01, LA MBX02, CH MBX01, CH MBX02.

The certificate installed on both LA and Chicago CAS is an external certificate from DigiCert. All mail routing goes out via IronPort located in Chicago site. The SEND connector "OUTBOUNDTOIRONPORT" has the Chicago IronPort appliance is smarthost. All of the mailbox servers (DAG members) are added as SOURCE SERVERS in the connector. At some point, I'll be configuring a new SEND connector and enable SCOPED SEND Connectors. We also have another IronPort ready in LA site.

So, this error is confusing to me because the external certificate from DigiCert has SMTP services tied to it and outbound email is flowing from MBX servers to Chicago IronPort and out. As I understand, mailbox servers do not require external certificates only CAS because all connectivity is proxied through CAS servers.

What do I need to do to get rid of that error? Thanks!

Turn off / Disable Default Internal Relay

I am going crazy over this, I have dozens on instances of Exchange running, one of the clients complained that he was doing tests and can send email using an SMTP tool without even being on the IP list of the relay connector.

Upon checking I found that if I used one of the accepted domains in the recipient the mail regardless of any connector there or not, would just pass and the email will be sent out. Not only that I can change the sender address to anything. If I use<g class="gr_ gr_545 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" data-gr-id="545" id="545">any</g> external address in the recipient then it won't work (Need an external relay right...).

I have spent too many hours trying to get this restricted but cannot, because I cannot find a straight answer anywhere. My very straight question here is, is this really by default?

Has anyone overcome this?

Exchange issue with one external domain

I have a strange issue with our 2013 Exchange. All internal users are getting these return errors if they send to one ( and only one) external domain. These emails work from personal email ( yahoo, gmail... etc.. )

The trouble domain email is hosted on googlemail and we are running an exchange server locally for our domain.

The email address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's email address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk

However, if I create a email contact in exchange, it works flawlessly. Far as I can tell, this error is on our exchange server. I can email these users from my personal email so I know they are valid addresses.

done all exchange server diags I could find after some internet searches telnet email, ( failed ) test-emailconnectivity cmdlet etc.... with no success.

nslookup results:

C:\Windows\System32>nslookup -type=mx xxxxxx.org

Non-authoritative answer:

alt1.aspmx.l.google.com internet address = 64.233.X.X
alt1.aspmx.l.google.com AAAA IPv6 address =xxxxxx

not sure where to go from here. I am not creating 200 plus exchange email contacts to make it work.

Can anyone point me where to look to correct this issue?

Thanks,

Auto response to go to one domain only?

Hi

Had a request to set an auto response from a team mailbox, but the auto response should only go toone certain domain, as part of the auto response they'd like an attachment to be sent also, the attachment will be a generic form in Word or PDF format. My question - is this possible? If so, can it be set at Exchange level or Outlook level?

Thanks in advance

"Attachment sending to some specific external domains reaching to recepients as Winmail.dat file"

I did the following to fix the issue.

Right click on the Default Remote domain " * "  -  Properties - GotoMessage Format tab  and make sure that " Never use" is selected under Exchange rich-text format.

Exchange 2010 SP3 Mail Flow Issues

$

Hi all,

I'm having problems isolating a problem on my Exchange server with mail flow. Specs are: Server 2008 R2, Exchange Server 2010 SP3, Xeon E5-2407 processor, 16GB memory, and multiple partitions (C:\ 80GB / 24.6 Free; D:\ 700GB / 386 Free (database storage); L:\ 100GB / 98.2 free (logs)). Server has ~100 clients. Domain is served by a pair of DCs running on Server 2012.

Seems the hub transport is dying of its own accord after a few minutes to a few hours after a restart. The server is several years old and been working well until now. No real changes to settings that should cause this, though this started after I installed a few updates a couple days ago. Even removing the likely culprits hasn't seemed to help though.

Only pertinent error is 1009: The Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission service is currently unable to contact any Hub Transport servers in the local Active Directory site. The servers may be too busy to accept new connections at this time.

I've run a health check / BPA, and permissions check, but nothing unexpected pops up (old drivers mostly). In searching for info on the error, I've seen issues on back pressure / disk space, but those don't seem to be a big concern with my setup. Any thoughts?

Exchange 2013 "IP-AllowListEntry" not working

Hello,

we are using "Spamhaus ZEN" RBL for our Exchange.
There are a few IP-Adresses that I want to whitelist, this should work with "Add-IPAllowListEntry -IPAddress x.x.x.x"
The Command works successfully and returns the results with "Get-IPAllowListEntry"
Settings for IPAllowListConfig are "-Enabled True" and "-ExternalMail Enabled True"

My problem is that mails are being blocked even if they are on the whitelist.
Can someone tell me why that is happening?
I tried to restart TransportService and even whole Exchange server without success.

Mail Relay stops working, have to reboot every 6 hours

$
0
0

We have a service that relays voicemail to email for several domains. After working fine for years, suddenly it stops working about every 6 hours (about every 10 hours during off hours). Rebooting resolves the problem for another 6 hours. The Event Logs don’t seem to provide any guidance. It seems like TCP quits working until the reboot. I’m not sure how to troubleshoot. I can telnet locally or remotely to port 25, until after about 6 hours I cannot. Everything else seems fine, but no TCP port 25 activity. When I do netstat find /i and it is working, it shows LISTENING, ESTABLISHED and a process number. Then that process shows Edgetransport.exe the process number, then 0 and 180,468 K. When it has failed, netstat find /I returns a blank line. I cannot stop the Transport service - it fails to stop.

Any suggestions on resolving or troubleshooting I would appreciate.

It is Exchange Server 2010 on Windows 2008 R2 and has worked for several years.

It passes external tests for Open Relay. (Not an Open Relay)

Thank you
